Math 7:  Today we are working on what numbers are what percent of what numbers.  The homework is 9.2 in the workbook.

Math 8:  Today we are working on graphing functions and writing linear equations in function form.  The homework is 8.2 in the workbook.
Math 7:  On Monday the students worked on converting percentages to fractions and vice versa.  The homework was 9.1 in the workbook.

Math 8:  On Monday the students worked on functions, including domains, ranges and graphing.  The homework was 8.1 in the workbook.

The students did not get to the book lessons. Those will start next week. They ended the week with a pretest for the new chapter. There is no homework unless they have not handed in their space station.

Monday and Tuesday: The students are working on their space stations. Monday night the homework is to write up a description of the station using the scoring guide. Their work is due at the end of class on Tuesday.

Wednesday: Tony Leavitt from NASA is presenting to the class.

The students have calculated the scale size and scale distance of the planets. They have made planets to scale. We have gone outside and created our scale solar system.

Next week we will be working on CORE review for the Standards Based Assessments and volume and surface area.

Math 7th: The students have completed workbook lessons 7.1 - 7.3. They will continue working on solving equations by completing workbook lesson 7.4.

Math 8th: The students have been busy converting decimals, fractions, percents and solving percent sentences. They have completed workbook lessons 7.1 - 7.2 and they will be completing 7.3 today.

Math 7: The students are working on the last few lessons in chapter 6. On Monday the students did Workbook Lesson 6.6. Today they are working on two different lessons. Workbook lesson 6.8 is a graphing lesson. Lesson 7.1 is on writing variable expressions.

Math 8: The students are moving right through chapter 6. They completed 6.1-6.3 last week. Monday they worked on workbook lesson 6.4 and 6.5. These lessons were geometry lessons. Today they are working on workbook lesson 6.6.

Math 7th: The students spent two days working on a packet of review problems to prepare for the Terra Nova tests they will be taking next week.

Math 8th: The students are working on chapter 5. The students need to do problems every night for homework. Each correct problem is worth 1 point. The problems are fairly complex so it is sometimes hard to get a correct answer without careful work. All students could earn more points.

Math 7th: The students just completed a unit on adding and subtracting integers. They are very good at doing this. They will be bringing home a progress report on Tuesday for you to sign.

Math 7th: The students worked on Successmaker math on Monday. It is a computer program that gives each student individual problems to solve and works on their areas of weakness. On Tuesday they worked on worksheet 6.3 in their workbook. For Wednesday they have a quiz over adding and subtracting integers.

On Tuesday they took a quiz over adding and subtracting positive and negative fractions. Wednesday they are working on the rest of the quiz and a worksheet on multiplying and dividing fractions.

Thursday, 10th and Friday, 11th:

Math 7th: The students worked on worksheet 6.2 in their workbook on Thursday. Friday they will work on subtracting integers, they have two worksheets to complete.

Math 8th: The students worked on adding and subtracting, positive and negative fractions. This takes lots of steps and lots of thinking. It is like a puzzle to be solved, great brain food. We will take two days for this assignment. Worksheet 5.3 in their workbook is due at the end of class Friday. There will be a test on Monday.

Math 7th: The students worked on defining and ordering integers. The homework was worksheet 6.1 both sides.

Math 8th: The students worked on fractions. The homework was to complete a worksheet that compared and ordered rational numbers.
MATHCOUNTS is a national organization that encourages problem solving skills in the middle school. The Dzantik'i Heeni Team will be chosen after the in school competition on Jan. 22, 23, 24. To prepare for the competition, students will work in class, and be invited to the after school practice sessions Jan. 15- Jan. 17 in room C204.
The students chosen to be a part of the team will be invited to participate in the Southeast Alaska Competition on Saturday, Feb. 9 at JDHS. The State Competition will be held Saturday, March 29 in Anchorage.
